Women’s Major Series Lacrosse Provincial Tournament Coming to Peterborough this August
Women’s Major Series Lacrosse (WMSL) has selected Peterborough to be its host community for its 2025 Provincial Championship tournament that will be held from August 15 to 17, 2025.
The WMSL Provincial Championship brings together 10 teams from across Ontario for a three-day tournament with senior competition to crown the provincial champion.
The tournament will be held at two city arenas: the Peterborough Memorial Centre, the City’s premier sport and event centre, and the Kinsmen Civic Centre. Over three days, teams will compete in round-robin play, followed by elimination rounds to determine the Ontario champion.
“Women’s Major Series Lacrosse Provincial Championship is an exciting opportunity to showcase the incredible talent in women’s lacrosse, including our hometown Peterborough Lakers, and highlight Peterborough’s reputation as a premier lacrosse destination,” shared Peterborough City Councillors Lesley Parnell and Alex Bierk, Community Services co-chairs. “Peterborough Tourism and the Peterborough WMSL Lakers collaborating on this event gives us a chance to showcase our top-tier facilities and vibrant summer activities, while also allowing us to celebrate women in sport.”
The WMSL is Canada’s highest level of competitive women’s box lacrosse, featuring 10 teams and more than 150 athletes. The Peterborough WMSL Lakers are among the league’s newest teams and finished fourth in their 2024 inaugural season.
As part of the event, a welcome banquet will be held on Friday, August 15. While attending the tournament, participants and other attendees will have the chance to explore Peterborough’s attractions, festivals, restaurants, and other points of interest.
“Peterborough has a deep-rooted lacrosse culture, from minor leagues to the 18-time Mann Cup champion Peterborough Lakers,” said WMSL assistant commissioner, Victoria Clark. “We are thrilled to bring this premier event to the community, and to further showcase the talent of women’s box lacrosse.”
The tournament highlights the work of Peterborough Tourism with sport tourism as a key priority, which brings significant economic benefits through facility bookings, overnight stays, and increased exposure to a new audience of athletes, supporters, and spectators.
The 2025 WMSL season kicks off May 31, with the championship tournament set for mid-August. For the latest updates, visit womensmajorseries.ca or follow WMSL on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
