Explore the Winter Trails at Jackson Park

Jackson Park’s trails are just as magical in winter as they are in summer. Pack some warm boots or snowshoes and head out for a family hike through snow-covered trees. Kids will love spotting birds and other wildife in the snow. 

Visit the Canadian Canoe Museum

Explore the great outdoors indoors. With a visit to the Canadian Canoe Museum’s new waterfront location, families can explore Canada’s rich paddling history. With interactive exhibits, hands-on workshops, and activities tailored to kids, it’s a fun and educational way to spend a winter afternoon.  

Go Tobogganing at Armour Hill

Few things scream winter fun like tobogganing! Bring your sleds (or pick some up from a local retailer) and head to Armour Hill, one of the best spots in the city for tip-top views and winter thrills. Bonus points for stopping at the Peterborough Museum and Archives and learning a little about Peterborough’s history and culture.

Feed Chickadees at Ecology Park

Ecology Park is a great place for kids to immerse themselves in a love for nature and the environment. Be sure to check out Peterborough GreenUP's play area - complete with a mini cedar maze. Bring some sunflower seeds and teach your kids to feed chickadees right from their hands. 

Enjoy Free Winter Fun at Riverview Park and Zoo

The Riverview Park and Zoo is open year-round and offers admission by donation, making it a great spot for winter exploration. While some animals may be indoors, other - especially the lynx, caribou and river otters—are perfectly suited for winter viewing. Afterward, let the kids burn off energy at the large playground.

Take a Snowy Stroll Through Millennium Park

Downtown Peterborough’s Millennium Park is a picturesque spot for a winter walk, complete with some great. Finish your stroll with a stop at a nearby café for warm drinks and treats.  

Warm Up at the Art Gallery of Peterborough  

When it’s too cold outside, spend some time indoors at the Art Gallery of Peterborough, located just south of Del Crary Park. Their monthly Family Sundays (held on the first Sunday of the month) and interactive exhibits provide the perfect mix of creativity and fun, keeping little hands busy and minds engaged.

Catch a Live Performance

Throughout the winter months, Peterborough's performing arts community provide entertainment that warms the spirits. Check out the Peterborough Theatre Guild's family-friendly play in the lead up the holiday season in December. Music loving kids will also love performances by the Peterborough Symphony Orchestra (one of Canada's most respected community orchestras) taking place throughout the winter months.
