It is becoming a well-known tradition for paddlers, Peterborians, and for people looking for an iconically Canadian summer experience. Lock & Paddle at the Peterborough Lift Lock is back July 19, 2025. This signature event, held on Canada’s Parks Day, invites canoeists and kayakers to take part in a one-of-a-kind journey as they ascend the world’s highest hydraulic lift lock in a vibrant display of community and canoe culture.

A Historic and Iconic Experience

The Peterborough Lift Lock, a National Historic Site of Canada, is a marvel of engineering that has stood the test of time since 1904. Rising 65 feet (19.8 meters) above the water, it remains the highest of its kind anywhere in the world. Experiencing this impressive feat of ingenuity from a canoe or kayak is a truly once-in-a-lifetime moment that connects paddlers to Canada’s rich heritage.

Join Hundreds of Fellow Paddlers

Lock & Paddle is more than just a ride up the Lift Lock—it’s a celebration of paddling, community, and the great outdoors. Each year, participants bring their canoes and kayaks, often decorating them in creative and colourful ways, and join a mass paddling event unlike any other. It’s a chance to meet fellow enthusiasts, share stories, and be part of an unforgettable gathering on the water.
